Axis & Allies and PBEM [Top]
Axis & Allies Play By EMail (pbem):
A few guys run some services (free). Richard Willis (willsr@caedm.et.byu.edu)
runs a standard Axis & Allies game; he'll set you up with a referee
and an opponent.
Sorry but Chris Goldfarb does not operate his PBEM game anymore. Thanks
Chris for a job well done.
I have used them and played a few good games (April 96).
Some other links that I know of are Eric Pass (http://www.nyx.net/~epass/home.html#PBEMDIR - a list of players whom you can contact - epass@nyx.cs.du.edu - does an excellent page on Avalon Hill type games - same URL) who lists players for a regular game, Morten Steinvik (mortenst@stud.idb.hist.no) and Dag Rune Kvitten (dagrk@stud.idb.hist.no) supposedly run one of the expansion games (I don't know if it's Gamer's Paradise or Xeno or something else?). See the FAQ for more details on these guys (Question #12's answer).
America Online* (AOL) has
a PBEM league. Some rules are different but it seems like a pretty good
setup. All the information you need to sign up and more tidbits on A&A
can be found at: http://members.aol.com/chrmcd/aaclub/aahome.htm.
I have played a few games with AOL and they have an excellent setup.
NEW** - Use the http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/micwil/axis/index.html
link to get to the club. I do not know if the AOL link will be updated
in the future or not as of Feb 1, 98 the site looks in disrepair.
Xeno's World At War is also offered by AOL. Email EnemyThine@aol.com for more information. This splinter group has a few real good people playing and we are working on defining a good set of rules to resolve some of the Xeno problems (Xeno left a few rules a bit vague, and some situations were just not covered at all).
Lord Pez is the current (Dec 97) president of the AOL A&A Club. His site has some links and a list of the players. http://members.aol.com/LORDPEZ/ClubStandings.html
World War II Play By EMail:
I once saw a site in Australia that had a great WWII scenario.
It was too late to join but they welcomed lurkers and I lurked but nothing
happened and it eventually died. But before it left I got a lot of good
ideas from it and have tried to put something similar to it in my WWII PBEM Game.
Before it left it had played four months (September 1939 to December 1939)
and during this time the Japanese had 'Pearl Harboured' Vladivostok!
http://www.nectar.com.au/jascraig/craig/wwii.html
Dogs of War:
These guys have made a Axis&Allies game for the PC. And it can be played
over the Internet. Old site: http://www.usd.edu/~pthronso/dogs.htm doesn't
work.
New Site: http://www.datapype.net/~sei
I have heard that Milton Bradley has instigated some sort of legal
action (copyright or trademark law) and that Dogs is no longer supported.
Dennis' Dogs of War Page: http://dsh.dhis.org/dow/
has some info on it.

Milton Bradley [Top]
Milton Bradley's Address is (this is from my game - early 90's; I have seen other MB addresses also):
MB GAMEMASTER SERIES
P.O. Box 2325
Cincinnati, Ohio 45202
This one is uptodate (1998)
Gamemaster Consumer Sales
Milton Bradley Company
443 Shaker Road East
Longmeadow, MA 01028
In Canada it is
HASBRO CANADA INC, Consumer Service
PO Box 267, Station "A"
Longueil, Quebec, J4H 3X6
They were kind enough to send me another set of 300 pieces and chips and
dice and manuals for about $15. (Cheaper than Xeno's ~350 pieces for $40
CAN!). Spring 98 cost $23 for 2 sets of pieces alone ($3 for S&H, $10
per set).
Hasbro**, the owner of Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers and more, has a site www.hasbro.com
*** NEWS *** Hasbro Interactive should have a CD ROM version of Axis & Allies available by September 1998! Nothing on their site as of May 98 but I hope to see it on the site or the Hasbro Interactive site.
To the Next Chapter: Current Game
* Note about AOL - I do not subscribe to AOL. I
did for the free 50 hours. I thought I had 50 hours free. But I
did not know I had to use it all in one month. After 3 hours use I started
to see bills on my VISA. I cancelled - not an easy thing to do as
you have to get on to a technical support chat line. I finally cancelled.
A few weeks later I get a call about starting up again with another 50
free hours. I said I would think about it. I then started to get billed
again WITHOUT EVEN LOGGING BACK ON!!! I called up again
and cancelled again. I called VISA about getting rid of the two bills I
had (AOL had snuck 2 months of billing onto one VISA bill - lucky/unlucky
timing). I called AOL about getting rid of the charges. They
said they would but I still had to sign a form from VISA authorizng the
deletion. I hate AOL.
But I think the guys at the AOL Axis&Allies Club are great
for doing all the work they do to organize the games and keep us playing.
** Hasbro - their lawyers sent me a letter telling me to 'cease and desist' in the creation of a "Windows version of A&A". Would have been similar to Dogs of War. I had only advertized on a previous site that I intended to create such a game (April 96). I was working on the graphics (not even close to an AI) using Borland C++ when I got the letter and did cease. A few others on the net told me of similar experiences. P.Thronso of DoW told me he had no problems (1996) however he has recently been in contact with Hasbro's lawyers (they contacted him!) and now....
