These prices are pretty high.  What's that all about?

My maps are produced on a HP Designjet 488ca printer. 
 [These printers cost $4000+ US after taxes (in early 2000)]
This printer can produce images up to 36" wide in full colour.
The length of the images produced is limited by the memory of the PC it is hooked up to.

All images (maps and art) are produced individually. These are not mass produced.
As such I can do custom maps. 

The amount of time spent on making a map and the rules manuals generally runs into many dozens if not hundreds of hours.
 [ My time is worth at least $10 /hr, though when I get paid I get $30 /hr and sometimes more as a computer programmer/instructor/consultant :) ]

Paper and ink costs are approximately $2 per square foot.
Maps are laminated by a 3rd party.  This generally costs me $1.50 to $2.00 per square foot.
Some art images are framed and under glass.  The cost of this varies with the type of frame and the size of the image.

Postal rates for a 36" shipping tube is about $10 in the USA and Canada.
Shipping of a framed image varies greatly and is generally expensive.

Any 'profit' made with these maps pays for the printer and for my time designing the maps.
As described in the news on the index page - the USA dollar moved from $0.66 to $0.95 CDN in the past 7 years, thus my prices have gone up as I pay for costs in CDN money.

Quality

The paper that my maps and images are produced on are high resolution or photograph quality. 
The inks are HP with no cheap knock off inks.
Lamination is 3 mil or thicker for protection.

Lamination also allows for spillage of liquid on the maps without damaging them.  And for the use of dry erase markers for planning your strategies.
All manuals are laser ink printed or photocopied professionally from laser originals.
All additional stuff is high quality colour laser and b/w laser and some is laminated.
